It's nose to the grindstone time on series 3 of Modern Life Is Goodish and it occurs to me that, when it comes to the recordings it would be really rather lovely if there was an audience there to watch the shows.
I told my mailing list about them yesterday (they always get first dibs) but if you're the kind of person who'd like to see the show being recorded - this is the link you need.
We record two shows each night... and as people who've been to see any of series 1 and 2 can hopefully confirm, we really do try to make them work as live shows on the night. It isn't a let's-record-a-load-of-stuff-and-then-try-and-make-it-work-in-the-edit sort of thing.
All the shows are recorded at The Tabernacle in Notting Hill and this series we're doing them all on Sundays - which hopefully means that fewer people will have that will-I-be-able-to-get-there-in-time-after-work panic.
The recordings are on May 3rd, May 31st, June 28th and July 26th. Doors at 5pm and we should be starting the recording at 6pm.
It'd be lovely to see you there!
Oh... and of course there are warm up shows, mixed bills and the continuation of the tour in the autumn... all of which are detailed on the Live Dates page.

Sucks that you have to get all the way through registering before it tells you that even with a ticket you are not guaranteed to get in unless you turn up 3hrs early! :( is that even a ticket?
@Ben Norris: it does suck. But here's the thing: tickets for recordings are free. They always are. For all TV shows. But because they're free, loads of people ask for them and then don't bother to come along because they're not losing anything. So if you have 200 seats to fill and you give out 200 tickets, the chances are that you'll only have 100 people there. And empty seats look bad and kill some of the atmosphere. So every show has to over-distribute the tickets... and that means that you run the risk of turning some people away. Often people get in touch and say, "no, no... we're definitely coming, you can count on us" etc etc... and it turns out that 50% of the time they don't bother.
And some of it might be a self-fulfilling prophecy where some people don't end up coming because they're worried about not getting in. But there's no way of testing that theory. Or there is. But it's been tested. And the result was a half full studio.
But the ticket people are very good on this show and have a good knowledge of the percentages involved. We always had a full house in Series 1 and 2 and sometimes didn't have anyone turned away. On rare occasions a handful of people were turned away. When that happened, we always offered to guarantee them entry to a future recording of the show instead.
Are there any age restrictions?
Just send me a couple of chuffin tickets, please. I cant be arsed begging. Ta.
Adam Lewis
@Dave Gorman my mum is in a wheelchair so we cant attend unless thers a gaurentee of being able to get in///
A question, if I may be so bold, about group bookings:
I've emailed the address on the TVRecordings site as there's a group of 8 of us wanting to attend - but haven't heard anything since (not even an automated 'we have your email' response).
Do you happen to know whether this is normal, and they'll be in touch in due course, or is the lack of response a sign that the booking attempt has failed (I've only ever booked pairs of tickets before now).
Thanks in advance...
Why don't you just offer a deposit system for the tickets? Pay £10 deposit which you get back on attending the show.
Panic over - I got an email just now
Apologies for the impatience...
Is there an age limit? I'd hate to arrive three hours early and be turned away.
I can try and answer people's questions... but I'm not actually in a position to know all the answers.
@Catherine B & @Robin: Age Restrictions. Not that I'm aware of. But the show goes out at 10pm and it might considered weird having a post-watershed show on the air if there's a pre-watershed audience on view, so I might be wrong.
@Adam Lewis: I couldn't even if you did beg! This is how the tickets are distributed!
@Omari: then contact the ticketing people and explain as much. They've certainly made arrangements for this situation in previous episodes.
@Anonymous, re: deposits. I'm sure they would if they could. This isn't a situation unique to *this* show... it happens on every TV show with an audience.
When I made my first series, Are You Dave Gorman? I had a very small mailing list. I knew many of the people on it to speak to because they'd attended lots of small shows etc. The studio seated 100. The tickets were snapped up quickly and the decision was made to not over-subscribe because we felt it was small and kind of knowable number of people. 50 of them didn't show. The audience for episodes 1 and 2 were 50 people who wanted to be there and 50 people who'd been turned away from Goodness Gracious Me and who were really quite confused by what was going on.
How long do recordings take? Ie what time will we be turned out into the Notting Hill night?
Would love to see your show I have no idea how where can I get tickets please both myself and hubby think your hilarious
@Gillian Higson: if you mean the tour show... well you buy tickets from a venue. If you mean the TV show, well you're commenting on a blog post that tells people how to get tickets! There isn't currently a series in production. But when we get into series 4 and release the dates my mailing list will get first dibs. They always do. The link is in the blog!

Hi Gillian. You got a 404 because that was a link to the tickets for series3 which was recorded earlier this year. But there's also a link in there to my mailing list and - as the blogpost says - they always get first dibs. If you're on the mailing list you'll find out on the day that tickets are released, if you're not, you might find out a day or two later. I hope it's getting clearer!
Yes I understand can you point me in the direction of the page I can sign up for the list thank you so much Mr gorman for taking the time to reply
