A Short Clip...

The first three ideas from a one-off feature in the first episode:

Using @bbcgenius on twitter and the Genius group on facebook encouraged loads more people to get in touch with loads more ideas. But nobody sent more than Pat Harkin. Which is why when he was in the audience we surprised him with this.

Incidentally, the silly Mastermind theme music that sings Pat's name... that was recorded by our producer Simon and researcher Dan without telling me. So if I look a little surprised by it... I was.

Have I mentioned that the series starts on Monday night? At 10pm. On BBC2.

I met Pat at the recording. The man's a genuine star.

He is indeed. One of the things I like about the new format is that it seems to allow different personalities to emerge. Perhaps it's just that as it's a more random sweep we hear more people so there's more likely to be those characters and the guests are always likely to find them and to dwell on their ideas.

Is there any chance of BBC broadcasting the show here in America?

@Ray Rodriguez: I really couldn't tell you... I've not heard anything about it but that doesn't mean that it won't happen. They released the first series on DVD without telling me after all. (I'm not complaining, just using it as an illustration of the fact that I'm no more likely to know than you are!)

By the way, just so you know, Genius isn't broadcast until 12.20 a.m. on BBC2 Northern Ireland. So most people who want to see it this side of the Irish Sea, will be Sky+ing, I'm afraid.

Sorry, that's 12.20 a.m. on Tuesday morning, i.e. 2 hours 20 minutes later than seen in GB.

@TheQ47: so I hear. Not very helpful of them... oh well. If you have Sky and you're Sky+ing it then another option would be to go to one of the other BBC2 feeds on your Sky Box. I can watch BBC2 Scotland here in London if I like... sure you can do similar.

Oh yeah, I can get BBC2 London, but only on the "Other Channels" option (under "Services"). Unfortunately, you can't pause, rewind or record these channels, so it'll be Tuesday evening before I get to watch Genius. I'm sure it'll be worth waiting for.

I don't know why, but this sort of thing happens all the time on BBC NI (both 1 & 2). it seems as if any programme I want to watch is either on later than usual, or else is scheduled in a very unusual manner, e.g., the last series of QI was shown out of sequence, and about 3 episodes were not shown at all.

it's quite annoying, but I hope all the Genius episodes (6 I think?) will be shown.
